In fiscal year 2024, GAA carried on its mission to meet the current and emerging needs of its target audiences for auto insurance, i.e., consumers, members and partners.
Preventing auto theft
As GAA is concerned by the rise in auto thefts, it worked with other stakeholders to reduce the negative impact on insurers. GAA now has a new database, called infoNIV, which contains the vehicle identification number for all vehicles insured in Québec so that recovered vehicles can be quickly returned to the right insurer. There were also an information campaign and communication tools to raise awareness among drivers about what behaviours they should adopt to reduce the risk of having their vehicle stolen.
Optimizing tools and practices
Continuous improvement is still a GAA priority. One notable improvement is the launch of the Appraisal 24/24 website, which provides auto damage appraisers and repairers with key information. Another example is a simple and intuitive learning tool that was developed to provide insurers with greater support when they use the Risk Sharing Plan. GAA has also compared the provisions of Regulation No7 to those of the Facility Association, which is our counterpart for risk sharing in other parts of Canada. Some provisions in Regulation No 7 have been relaxed while other provisions have been revised to ensure a better alignment.
Adapting and simplifying insurance policies
GAA has kept working on simplifying auto insurance forms, which is a major initiative to make insurance easier to understand. We also worked with the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) to develop a new option for policyholders that had purchased Q.E.F. No. 43 – Option E, and whose vehicle was declared a total loss, which is a cash compensation. This initiative will mitigate the persistent challenges in replacing a vehicle, particularly due to delays in the supply chain.
Giving brokerage firms access to FCSA
GAA has finished developing a technology infrastructure that gives brokerage firms access to the Fichier central des sinistres automobiles (FCSA). It will keep working with the AMF to make headway in other components of this project.
Continuing to modernize systems
Progress was made in the ÉvoluSys project, a major initiative to modernize GAA systems that are critical to its mission. Applications were rewritten and translated, thus allowing GAA to carry out its mandates and activities. To date, nearly 60% of the applications covered by this phase have been delivered on schedule and within authorized budgets. This activity report provides an overview of what our teams and the industry professionals who sit on our committees have achieved in 2024. We want to express our deepest gratitude to them, and to the board members who have supported us throughout the year.
