Cost for passenger vehicles

  • The average premium was $775 in 2021.
  • Following a drop from 2011 to 2014, the average premium underwent a series of increases from 2015 to 2021. From 2011 to 2021, the average increase was 4.5% per year.

In 2021, the average premium by coverage type was as follows:

  • Civil liability: $351
  • Collision: $328
  • Comprehensive (accident without collision or upset): $174

Civil liability coverage posted the largest increase.

Average premium in Canada

In 2021, the average auto insurance premium in Quebec was the lowest in Canada.

Combining the cost of private insurance for property damage and the cost of public insurance for personal injury (SAAQ), the average premium in Quebec was the lowest in the country again this year.
