Insurance rate criteria

According to age and sex

The cost of insuring a vehicle against collision remains more expensive for men under the age of 30.

  • For 16-to-20 year-olds, the collision premium for men was $ 972 and the one for women was $ 780.
  • Regardless of their age, men pay more for collision insurance than women. However, the gap narrows with age.
  • The average premium drops for both sexes up to age 74 and then increases for drivers aged 75 and up.
  • Regardless of the sex of the driver, the frequency of claims decreases continuously until age 64 and then increases. 
  • From ages 45-64, the frequency of claims for women exceeds that for men.
  • The frequency of claims for those aged 75 and over is around 4%, a percentage similar to the 25-29 year old group.
  • The number of insured vehicles increases with age up to 64 years, before falling again.
  • The number of vehicles insured for the age group of 45 to 64 stands out with a volume significantly higher than other groups.
  • The number of vehicles insured is approximately the same for men and women up to age 44. After that point, men insure more vehicles than women do.
